United States Flag Code

The United States Flag Code establishes nationally recognized guidelines for displaying, handling, and honoring the American flag. Adopted by Congress in 1942, the Code explains proper flag etiquette, including when and how the flag should be flown, half-staff procedures, respectful conduct during ceremonies, and the dignified retirement of worn flags.

The Military Affairs Committee encourages residents, businesses, and organizations to become familiar with these traditions. By following the U.S. Flag Code, our community demonstrates respect for the flag, the principles it represents, and the generations of servicemen and women who have defended our nation.
